Worldliness and the Church

Revelation 2: 12-17

What a joy to be able to hear a Word from the Lord as we continue to "check our temperature." There continues to be signs all around us indicating the end times. In this message we take a look at the church at Pergamom where we are reminded that Jesus expects us to be different from the world. When we as a church start looking like the world, Jesus has a definite warning for us. God knows the heart of the church and the people. Although He commended the faithfulness of the church at Pergamom, He condemned their sin regarding false teaching and immorality, calling for repentance.

Just as God knew the heart of the church at Pergamom, he knows the heart of our church. What does He see when He looks at our church? What does He see when He looks at us? Are we as Christians filled with worldliness? He is a loving God and is ready to offer forgiveness if we repent. God is faithful and promises a reward of His blessings and His freedom.

As we check our temperature through this Scripture, perhaps we as a church will find a need to repent of our worldliness and commit to be obedient to His command to share the Good News of Jesus outside the walls of the church building. Oh, church, we must rely on God’s promises and His freedom during this time of physical restrictions and confinement. We must be in the world but not of the world; after all, the world is our mission field.

We can’t wait to allow groups to begin meeting on campus for ministry events. In accordance with CDC and DHEC regulations, the following factors will influence every request to meet indoors on campus:

  1. The current community activity of COVID-19.
  2. The size and activity of the group and the size of the venue being requested.
  3. The overall church calendar and the need to clean between groups.

  • The FBS staff is meeting weekly over the local activity of the virus, which will influence our decision on what activities can meet on campus for the following two weeks.
  • In order to keep everyone’s safety and health our number one priority, the church also reserves the right to cancel any church-sponsored events, even up to the day of the event.
