The Church with the Door
Revelation 3:14-22
Don Wilton

“Behold I stand at the door and knock…” are words that ring in our hearts as we think of the church of Laodicea, a city built on a hill in a prosperous area at the time of the writing of Revelation 3. The city was known for its aqueduct system that brought pure fresh water to the people inside the city. However, by the time the water reached the people, it contained impurities from the system, making the water lukewarm and unclean.

Jesus compares the church at Laodicea to the water – not pure and cold; rather they were lukewarm and their deeds and actions were deceptive.  The church was encouraged to put aside their unrighteousness and material prosperity and serve God wholeheartedly. He insisted that they open their eyes and see clearly that Jesus stands at the door and knocks. They needed to get serious, repent and confess their sins; otherwise He would spit them out as lukewarm water.

This message is for believers as well as unbelievers. Perhaps as believers we have allowed our hearts to become impure and lukewarm- not focused completely on Jesus. This church may remind you that as an unbeliever, you need to open the door as you hear Jesus’ knocking.

Thank God for the door where He stands knocking. Allow Him to come in and have fellowship with you again or for the first time. He is waiting.

We can’t wait to allow groups to begin meeting on campus for ministry events. In accordance with CDC and DHEC regulations, the following factors will influence every request to meet indoors on campus:

  1. The current community activity of COVID-19.
  2. The size and activity of the group and the size of the venue being requested.
  3. The overall church calendar and the need to clean between groups.

  • The FBS staff is meeting weekly over the local activity of the virus, which will influence our decision on what activities can meet on campus for the following two weeks.
  • In order to keep everyone’s safety and health our number one priority, the church also reserves the right to cancel any church-sponsored events, even up to the day of the event.
