Telling (His)tory Through Your Story

Everybody has a story! A new First Baptist history is being compiled right now. It’s a collection of stories FBS members share - we’re looking for yours.
Through the big events and the little situations, God shows His love. Through the good times and the bad, God is there. No matter where we are in history or in life, an ever-present, unconditionally-loving God is in control.
I Love to Tell the Story is a book about God at work in His people through FBS events and in the hearts of our church family.  First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, South Carolina, has an incredibly rich heritage. We want others to know of God’s faithfulness and goodness. In order to share that story, we need your story. We want to tell His story through yours.
If you have a story of how God has touched your life through one of the ministries of FBS, please send us your story. We need stories that show your hearts, stories that show God working. Don’t just give us a chronological account of your membership. Show us how God has spoken to you through your church and church family. Email your stories to Linda Gilden at Rosewriter@aol.com with “FBS stories” in the subject line.

Below is an example of how God spoke to one of our young people and moved her to share her faith with our President.

One of my greatest memories of FBS was when Mr. Clint (Rev. Clint Smith) inspired me to write a letter to The President. I wanted President George W. Bush to know that I had been praying for him for some time. I sent along a photo of me in my soccer uniform and invited him to come visit our church.

My mom helped me find his address in the phone book. After I sent the letter to him I almost forgot until a few weeks later. One fall afternoon my mom said, “I have a special surprise for you Rebekah Ann!” I was so excited. It was a large golden envelope. The return address read : THE WHITE HOUSE in humongous letters. President Bush sent me a personal letter! He also sent a picture of himself and his wife, Barbara Bush, the First Lady.

This experience taught me that when you reach out to others a blessing always comes back tenfold. The letter and photograph is now framed and hanging in our front hallway.
